Aluminum Chlorohydrate (CAS 12042-91-0)
Aluminum Chlorohydrate (Al₂(OH)₅Cl · xH₂O) is a high-basicity (70%–83%) inorganic polymeric coagulant and active antiperspirant ingredient. Rich in Al₁₃ Keggin polycations ([Al₁₃O₄(OH)₂₄(H₂O)₁₂]⁷⁺), ACH delivers rapid charge neutralization and physical eccrine duct occlusion with minimal water acidification.

Dual-Industry Mechanisms & Dosage
Water & Effluent Coagulation
- Mechanism: Pre-hydrolyzed Al₁₃ polycations neutralize colloidal negative zeta potentials at high rates. Releasing 83% fewer H⁺ protons than alum during hydrolysis (Al₂(OH)₅Cl + H₂O → 2Al(OH)₃↓ + H⁺ + Cl⁻), ACH preserves raw water alkalinity, slashes sludge weight by 30%–50%, and remains active in cold water (1°C).
- Dosage: 2.0–15.0 mg/L (municipal drinking water); 50–300 mg/L (industrial oily wastewater).
Personal Care Antiperspirant
- Mechanism: Applied at pH 3.5–4.5, ACH migrates into eccrine ducts where sweat (pH 7.2–7.4) triggers rapid gelation. The Al₁₃ species cross-link with mucopolysaccharides and keratin, creating a temporary amorphous plug (Al₂O₃ · xH₂O–protein) that sheds naturally via skin desquamation.
- Dosage: 10.0%–20.0% w/w active in roll-ons/gels; 8.0%–15.0% w/w micronized powder (d₉₀ < 10 µm) in anhydrous sticks/aerosols.
Storage, Logistics & Compliance
- Packaging: 25 kg paper bags, 1000 kg FIBCs, 250 kg HDPE drums, 1250 kg IBC totes, bulk road tankers.
- Materials: HDPE, XLPE, FRP, or rubber-lined steel piping/tanks with Viton/PTFE seals. Avoid carbon steel, aluminum, and 304 SS (risk of chloride pitting).
- Storage Temp: Store liquid between 5°C and 35°C. Keep powders sealed against ambient humidity.
- Regulatory: GHS Category 2A Eye Irritant (H319/H290, Warning). Non-hazardous for transport (HS Code 2827.32.00). Certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60, US FDA 21 CFR 350 (≤ 25% anhydrous limit), EU REACH, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO 14001:2015.
